BEGINNING CROCHET

INSTRUCTOR: Susan Miles
LEVEL:
beginner

DATES: Sundays, October 5 and 12, 10:30am – 1pm, (2 classes, 5 hours)

You have heard the phrase G hook, puzzled over the terms single-double crochet, half-double and wondered what on earth it all means. Wonder woman Susan Miles will guide you and your hand as you learn how to master the art and technique of crochet. You will complete a stitch sampler scarf (for your own private viewing only!), a top down hat, and since no beginning crochet class would be complete without it, a classic granny square!

INTRODUCTION TO NEEDLE FELTING:
The Sheep!

INSTRUCTOR: Carrie Vermazen
LEVEL:
beginner

DATE: Saturday, October 11, 1:30pm – 4:00pm, (1 class, 2.5 hours)

This little sheep has been happily ensconced in the studio for a few weeks. We have been asked so many times how we made it, that we decided we should offer a class! Needle felting is the rage right now in the fiber world. From a clump of unspun wool and a special needle, you can create just about anything. Carrie will teach you the basic techniques and guide you in creating the sheep, which can be a Christmas tree ornament, a pin cushion, a toy, or just a bit of whimsy.

MONTHLY BLOCK PARTY!

INSTRUCTOR: Carrie Vermazen
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Sunday, Oct 12, 1:30pm – 4:00pm (1 class 2.5 hours)

Join us for our monthly block party where you will drink many cuppas, munch on Síle’s shortbread and...... each month you will build your knitting skills and learn cool new stitch patterns. The end result will be a stunning blanket created with your blocks. What fun!

This is the second in the Block Party Series. (You do not need to have been at the first one in order to join us for the second class.) Using the Tech Square Afghan booklet, Carrie is your guide in this adventure. October’s block is the fabulous Travelling Stitches Tree Block.  While you are working on this creation, you will learn how to make different travelling stitches, how to increase from the stitch below, and how to cable.

KIRA K CORNUCOPIA

INSTRUCTOR: Kira Dulaney

DATES: Saturdays, October 11, 18 and November 1, 11:00am – 1:00pm, (3 classes, 6 hours)

Kira K has loads of fabulous patterns. And you have wanted her to teach them all – the gloves, the hats, the cowls, the sweaters.... Now is your chance. Choose one or all of her patterns and in this class, the designer herself, Kira K, will guide you in your work. How terrific is that? Or maybe you have some unfinished Kira K projects in your stash? Bring them and finish them. And another perk – this class is for both knitters and crocheters.

FEE: $66.00

Note: If needed, there will be an additional class on the evening of Wednesday Nov 5th – 7 to 8:30 (fee: $15.00-- payable that evening)

MAGICAL MYSTERY KNITTING PARTY

INSTRUCTOR: Kate Freeman
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Friday, October 17, 6:30pm – 9:30pm (one class, 3.5 hours)

Party time! You arrive with your needles and yarn in hand. We serve you food and the beverage of your choice. Then abracadabra, the fun begins.  Kate tells you how many stitches to cast on. She gives you each subsequent instruction as needed. You and your friends are literally in stitches as you try to figure out what on earth you are knitting. The mystery is revealed at the end of the party.

FEE: $36.00 (wine, beverages, light dinner and plenty of fun provided!)

BEGINNING SPINNING: ON A DROP SPINDLE

INSTRUCTOR: Brooke Sinnes of Tactile Fiber Arts

DATES: Sundays, October 19 and 26, 11:00am – 1:00pm (2 classes, 4 hours)

Have you ever wondered how yarn is made?  Are you curious about all the spinning you have seen online? In this class you will learn the basics of how to make your very own yarn on a drop spindle. You will also learn how to ply yarn on a drop spindle, how to finish your yarn once it has been spun, and to identify all the different characteristics of spinning fiber. The materials fee includes a drop spindle and fiber.

FEE: $45.00
Materials fee: $18.00 for the drop spindle and $15.00 for fiber for spinning, to be paid on the day of class.

SPINNING SOCK YARN

INSTRUCTOR: Maia Discoe of Tactile Fiber Arts
LEVEL: Intermediate

DATES: Thursdays, October 23 and 30, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, (2 classes, 4 hours)

Sock spinning or more accurately spinning yarn for socks is the brainchild of Ms Maia. She wanted to teach a sock class and then the idea of spinning the yarn for the socks came to her! You will learn what fibers are appropriate, and what amount of twist is good for durability of wear (important for socks). You will spin samples in differing plys – 2ply, 3ply and Navajo ply and spin painted colorways for your stunning socks. You may use a drop spindle or a wheel.

FEE: $45.00

Note: This class can be taken in conjunction with Socks on Circulars for $100 for BOTH classes, saving you $11!

SCARF AND SCARF PARTY!
(scarf = to eat AND scarf = around your neck!)

INSTRUCTOR: Kate Freeman
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Friday, October 24, 7:00pm – 9:30pm (one class, 2.5 hours)

Join us for the second of our knit-one-one Scarf and Scarf Parties where we will eat drink, make merry and work on the ONE cable scarf.  (The last party was wildly successful!)

At this party our Kate will lead you in one of her own designs – The Hella Cable Scarf. Kate has always been intrigued by cables and wanted to create a scarf that would use just ONE cable. Handsome, showy, warm, and practical, the Hella Cable Scarf is perfect for everyone on your gift list AND it is super fast too!

FEE: $33.00 (yummy food and drinks included)

HONEYCOMB JAVA JACKET: GOING GREEN

INSTRUCTOR: Kate Freeman

Both the Queens – Cable and Bee – love their coffee. But we hate to keep using/wasting the java jackets that they hand out. Enter this ingenuous design by Kate in which she combines her love of cables and her environmental background. Learn this great cable stitch and make an item that will wow all of your coffee loving buddies. And you can create a gazillion of them for all those people on your gift list!

PETRA'S COWL

INSTRUCTOR: Petra Johnson
LEVEL:
advanced beginner

DATE: Saturday, October 26, 1:30pm – 4:00pm, (1 class, 2.5 hours)

The mornings are getting nippy and you need a cozy, snug, something around your neck. This nifty crafty cowl is just the item you need. Knit in the round with a stitch pattern created by Petra herself, this cowl has been tried on by scores of vistors to the studio and all of them – and I mean all – have loved it. A perfect must-have item not only for you but all of your friends and family members too.

SOCKS ON CIRCULARS

INSTRUCTOR: Maia Discoe of Tactile Fiber Arts
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATES: Thursdays, November 6, 13, and 20, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, (3 classes, 6 hours)

If you have dropped into Maia’s blog, you know that she is sock crazy. And after this class, you might be too. In this class, Maia teaches you how to knit 2 socks at a time on two circular needles. No more wrestling with double pointed needles or suffering from second sock syndrome! You will learn how to cast on, turn the heel, shape the toe, add a stitch pattern, make modifications and how to create alternate ribbings.

FEE: $66.00

Note: This class can be taken in conjunction with Spinning Sock Yarn for $100 for BOTH classes, saving you $11!
