emily elfers and slippers

It was a veritable Santa's workshop here a few weeks ago what with people measuring their feet, drawing their feet, cutting out patterns, sewing seams, creating cute little pouffs and goodness knows what all. And what exactly were these people making---the Emily Elf Slipper of course.Julie Weisenberger in addition to being a crack sweater designer is also interested in recycling, reusing and reacreating. The Emily Elf slipper is one of her designs. You begin the process by felting an old sweater or getting one from the thrift store. I scored big time when I went to our local Salvation Army and got lots of sweaters.( If you need a wool sweater, contact me) After felting the sweater, and drying it, the measuring etc. began. After 3 hours of instruction, the class produced these incredibly cute slippers. One of the people at the workshop, Robbie, was so taken by the slippers, that everyone on her gift list is getting a pair! Everything about the class was "recycled"---even the pattern paper---created from old garbage bags. Julie's next recycling class is
The Target Bag .
