I have been tagged! Oh dear....
My friend Nancy has tagged me. So what does that mean exactly? Well I am supposed to tell you 5 things that you might not know about me. And then watch out. I have to tag 5 more people (that's the fun part!)
Things you might not know about me:
1 I actually like the so called novelty yarns. Now before you throw up your hands in horror I will amend that by saying "in context". Look at one of the versions of theTemescal bag. I mean doesn't that little bit of green novelty yarn look cute? And of course I tend to use "high class" novelty yarn---from Habu no less!
2 I was arrested in South Africa and held for a few hours. The charge "inciting people to riot"---now if only I could incite you all to knit! The background: I was a volunteer in a tiny country called Lesotho. Three other teachers, 25 students and I were on a trip to Durban, South Africa. My transgression occured at a train station. I got out of the whites only carriage and walked down to where my students were. I talked to them and took a bite out of an apple being eaten by one of my male students. Thereupon the South African police appeared, grabbed my arms and jammed me into a little room.Of course I kept protesting but to no avail. However, they released me a few hours later so that I could get back on to the train.
3 I played the Irish harp and sang. When I was in college, I was a member of a group called The Harpoons (now you know why I kept this story under raps!) We even appeared on the Gay Byrne Show--the Irish version of one of those late night talk/entertainment shows!
4 My first dog was not a poodle--a corgi. Cliff was his name "Not named after Cliff Richards" I would proclaim! Even then I liked names with a story.
5 My first language was not English but rather Irish --or Gaelic--as it is known here. I remember going to school and not understanding what was being said. Maybe that experience drew me to the ESL field----my life prior to knit-one-one.
And now who shall I tag? Mmmmmm......
Jesse, Yarn-A-Go-Go ,
Jennifer, Tammy, Knit and Tonic

Thanks for playing, Sile! Here I've known you all these years and never had a clue about the arrest record. By the way, here's the direct link to my own Five Things post: http://nancyfriedman.typepad.com/away_with_words/2006/12/five_things.html
Hi Sile,
In case you don't get the email to Berkeley, this is to say that if you are interested in getting in touch to reminisce about Lesotho days I can be reached at george_dunn_2000@yahoo.co.uk
Best wishes,
George
