THE EMILY ELF SLIPPER

These slippers are another of Julie’s creations. One day she was wondering what to do with an old sweater. And while some of us might just stuff an old sweater into the back of the closet, Julie, being Julie, could see the creative possibilities inherent in this old garment. So she felted it and transformed the sweater into these winning, whimsical, comfy, slippers.

The Emily Elf slipper is super easy and actually requires no knitting---just felting and sewing. The slippers are a great way to recycle sweaters and to make something fun and functional at the same time.

In addition to helping you create your own Elf slippers, Julie will give you ideas on how to decorate them. In fact you might find yourself decorating with materials that you could never have imagined using!

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?
Beginner. No knitting experience necessary; just basic sewing skills. You will learn how to felt in this class.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
• The sweater should be felted BEFORE class. We will send you felting instructions when you sign up.
• One embroidery needle
• 2 skeins of embroidery thread. One should be the same color as your sweater. The other should be a contrasting color
– OR –
• 2 different colors of sturdy yarn from your stash. One should be the same color as your sweater. The other should be a contrasting color.

A note on design: You could felt 2 sweaters. One would be a dark color (eg. grey, navy, black) and you would use this for the soles of the slippers. The other would be a lighter color which you would use for the main body of the Emily Elf Slipper.
