RAVELRY HELP SESSION

INSTRUCTOR: Petra Johnson & Cindy O'Hara

You have signed up for ravelry and you are thrilled. But alas you haven’t quite figured out how to upload your pictures or how to “magic link". And oh there are so many more things that puzzle you. FINISH THAT PROJECT or BEGIN THAT PROJECT: A hands-on workshop with Julie Weisenberger

INSTRUCTOR: Julie Weisenberger

DATE: Saturday, July 12, 12:00pm – 2:30pm (one class, 2.5 hours)

You look in your knitting basket. What do you see? A sweater, well an almost sweater, part of one sock, a very short scarf, a pattern, yarn you don’t know what to do with, .....you get the idea. This is a workshop to help you finish or start that project. Julie will hold your hand (not literally of course) and help your needles get clacking again.

CROCHET ACCESSORIES

INSTRUCTOR: Susan Miles
LEVEL:
advanced beginner

DATE: Sunday, July 20, 1:00pm – 4:00pm (one class, 3 hours)

Learn how to make some nifty flowers to gussy up your projects. And/or you might prefer to create a cute little crochet pin to adorn your jacket. Or....well you have the idea. In this workshop, Susan will guide you in creating as many accessories as your fingers can complete!

BEGINNING SPINNING: ON A DROP SPINDLE

INSTRUCTOR: Maia Discoe and Brooke Sinnes of Tactile Fiber Arts

DATES: Sundays, July 20 and 27, 10:30am – 12:30pm (2 classes, 4 hours)

Have you ever wondered how yarn is made?  Are you curious about all the spinning you have seen online? In this class you will learn the basics of how to make your very own yarn on a drop spindle. You will also learn how to ply yarn on a drop spindle, how to finish your yarn once it has been spun, and to identify all the different characteristics of spinning fiber. The materials fee includes a drop spindle and fiber.

FEE: $45.00
Materials fee: $16.95 for the drop spindle and $15.00 spinning yarn.

MAGICAL MYSTERY KNITTING PARTY

INSTRUCTOR: Kate Freeman
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Friday, July 25, 6:30pm – 10:00pm (one class, 3.5 hours)

Party time! You arrive with your needles and yarn in hand. We serve you food and the beverage of your choice. Then abracadabra, the fun begins.  Kate tells you how many stitches to cast on. She gives you each subsequent instruction as needed. You and your friends are literally in stitches as you try to figure out what on earth you are knitting. The mystery is revealed at the end of the party.

FEE: $37.00 (wine, beverages, light dinner and plenty of fun provided!)

LUMINOUS SCARF

INSTRUCTOR: Kira Dulaney
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Saturday, July 26, 12:00pm – 3:00pm (one class, 3 hours)

Toss this glittering bamboo scarf around your neck for instant glamour – a perfect weight for Bay Area summer evenings. The beads add the glitter and are added to the yarn on the yarn overs. The beads fall randomly making them look like dew drops. This is a perfect class in which to work on lace techniques and to learn how to incorporate beads into your work.

FEE: $30.00

LEARN TO SPIN ON A WHEEL

INSTRUCTORS: Maia Discoe and Brooke Sinnes of Tactile Fiber Arts

DATES: Thursdays, August 7 – 28, 7:00pm – 9:00pm (four classes, 8 hours)

In this class we will be covering all the basics of how to spin on a wheel, how to do wheel maintenance, and what to consider when you decide to buy a wheel.  If you do not already own a wheel, we will have 5 wheels for rent for the duration of the class.  If you have a wheel that is in good working order, please feel free to bring it to use. An excellent worshop for drop spindlers and for those of you keen to try wheel spinning.

FEE: $85.00

SWITCH KNITTING: Changing from American to Continental Knitting

INSTRUCTOR: Kate Freeman
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Saturday, August 9, 12:00pm – 2:30pm (one class, 2.5 hours)

You are knitting merrily along, your needles are moving lickety split. Or so you think. You look up and your neighbor, who had been behind you, is now ahead. His sweater is much longer than yours. How could that be? Aha. The secret is continental knitting! In this class, the intrepid Kate will help you make the switch from English/American style knitting to Continental and get you started on the super cute Noro hat.

THE MAGIC LOOP AND THE CRAFTY CUFF

INSTRUCTOR: Tammy George
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATE: Saturday, August 16, 11:00am – 1:30pm (one class, 2.5 hours)

If you have’nt tried the magic loop, this is your chance. It is a technique that will change your life...well your knitting life anyway. Used by knitters in the know in place of double pointed needles, the magic loop will rapidly become your technique of choice for hats, socks, mittens, gloves and bag bottoms etc. Tammy will de-mystify the magic loop and get you started on a nifty little cuff into the bargain!

THE PERFECT BABY CARDI

INSTRUCTOR: Kate Freeman
LEVEL: advanced beginner

DATES: Tuesdays, August 12 and 19, 6:30pm – 10:00pm (two classes, 5 hours)

You have mastered the basics of knitting so you are ready for something more. You want to knit a sweater but the prospect is daunting.  Having Kate help you is a great solution. This perfect sweater is knit from the top down, uses circular and double pointed needles, and has no seams. Knit with a crew neck or a hood, this project will  teach you how to read a pattern, how to increase, how to make a button hole and much more.

GETTING LAUNCHED ON LACE

DATE: Saturday, August 30, 11:00am – 1:00pm (one class, 2 hours)

You have admired all those intricate, frothy, lace, numbers you have seen on other people. But....you have secretly been afraid to give it a go. Fear not. In this workshop, Petra will give you a tour of different lace stitches and get you launched on your next project – lace of course. Your knitting life will never be the same!
